Holding environment temperature using LED's?

Postby FLOWERpower » Tue Aug 06, 2013 3:58 pm

My main consern switching from HID to LED is the loss of heat from the hot lamp, so what is the best way or how many ways are there to keep your LED tent, Drobe, room at the temperatures we want them??

I have a 2f tube heater that I tested out in my stealth draws hooked up to a pulse thermostat and it kept a steady 25o with no light on so I plan to either use the same tube or buy the longer tube version to install in my stealth Drobe, hopefully this will give adjustable temps in the range I require, what ya's think? Will it be adiquate??

Another option is an added CFL because it gives of heat, anyone here use this method for temp control?

How do you all keep the temps how you want them in your LED environment?

Thanks

I use 2 heat tube 40w each and 4 cfl x 45w in cold months, I only use heat tubs at night.
my grow room is 10 x 9ft and my tem is 24 to 26c.
getting more heat is easy mate, getting heat out of grow room is hard work.

Hard work indeed !!! As i found out trying to keep my 250MH cool in a small space with a 4" TD silent fan , not an easy task and I was getting temps between 30-32 and that was months ago when the weather was shit.
I belive LEDs do throw out a bit of heat but I bet it's NOTHING like the HID bulbs! So bet its a he'll of a lot easier with a smaller fan to keep thinks cool
To heat my planned drobe I think I shall buy the bigger version of the tube heater I already have as the extra width is available in a drobe
Fingers crossed I get it dialed in with the pulse thermostat for a steady lights of temp :D

lol, you mad bastard but hey , it works so who is ANYONE to question it, is massively cheaper and looks so much better with the gained space from not having a big fan and can setup, like iv said before though i would rather have piece of mind knowing it wont smell , or larger bollocks to be brave enough to try your method lmao ggggrrrr

the tube heater that i have holds the draws at a nice steady 25 degrees hooked up to the thermostat with no light on so i think the bigger version would kick out enough heat to heat a wardrobe, don't you?

my grow will be in the bedroom of a flat so it should be (fingers crossed) well insulated and a nice cozy temp , and i can feed in cold are from near a window with ducting or same idea with a near by radiator ,so i will have some control of the inside with simple duct positioning , needless to say the flat i go for will be picked primarily with growing in mind lol

i will post some pictures of my build in the right section in a little while

cheers

Any Recomendations? Anyone?

"My main consern switching from HID to LED is the loss of heat from the hot lamp,"

This you will not have to worry about so much. Typical HID is roughly 20-25% efficient so roughly 75% being lost as heat.

Single-wavelength LEDs range from typical 30-35% efficiency right now. So say 65% lost to heat.

There will be a minor drop in temps but you should not have to worry that much about it in an enclosed space. If you're concerned, your best bet would be to reduce your airflow to accommodate the lower amount of heat being directly dumped from the panels.
