Re: DIY Timelapse project

hi guys!!!
been a few days again, few things have happened ;

the white widows were not coming on strong as Id hoped, not sure but ive had those seeds a while and decided to order something fresh in instead seeing as we'll timelapse it.
so I dropped some auto blueberry from dutch passion in the propagator and this time a lot better. day 3 today so they have all popped out and begin their journeys.
Im starting out with a few so can choose the best one to shoot full time later.

the pi has been Ok on the whole but annoyingly sometimes still went into crashes. im just going to have to assume its to do with fswebcam and the whole usb camera plot. in the end I have made another solution for when this happens. now an extra GPIO of the pi is toggled every minute by a CRON job. The GPIO is watched by another circuit, another little processor, MSP430 is monitoring that line. Should it stop for 7 minutes or more, it will switch its relay and close the Pi P6 header - the RESET switch. That seems to working well so on the odd occasion it does bomb out, this will recover it quickly so really we wont miss anything in the timelapse. just ride over it. the seven minutes was an estimate for a slow reboot with fsck check , so the MSP doesn't reboot it again whilst its still trying to reboot ;)
Ah I also swapped out that tilt servo that was noisy for a new one, and shortened the length of the main cam arm a bit. that stopped any tendency to oscillate when disturbed. now the timelapse does not have the annoying vertical jitter it had earlier.

ill do some more config and sort the pots out like I want tmrw probably, start the cameras rolling for proper.

hold on folks, should have some early footage coming through in the next days :)

Excellent job on the workaround!

Is there a possibility of hooking up two cameras to produce a stereoscopic image or perhaps just an image we can cross our eyes and get some faux 3D goodness?

All the very best, looking forward to the next installment. I'm just off to e-bay now to get some 3D glasses, just in case...

lol, actually Id already considered it for the next upgrade:)

all it would take is to mount two cameras side by side and sync the capture from both. sw does the rest and you can make a 3d timelapse out of it.
I reckon would be cool to get a couple canon slr's and interface them for some truly amazing 3d footage.

the autoblueberry is coming along well, they all are so I guesse I was right to swap out for a fresh batch.
starting to get some footage coming through now, ill give it another day or so before uploading the first clips :)

hi folks!!

heres a couple pictures of the grow coming along, quite pleased with this lot, looking good and healthy!
they are in a mix of good old soil and some coco mixed in there. The soil will make sure theres good nutrients available in the first few weeks without me having to think too hard about it. Once the soil is getting depleted, maybe another week or so they'll get re-potted and put on more adult food, acqua vega.
For the moment they are only on pH'd water with a bit of rhizotonic added.

Have a nice timelapse sequence of the story so far. having pc trouble with the video editor installation, stupid thing. needs solving before I can prepare it for upload to
youtube and share it with yall. should be up this weekend once I made some more time.

cheers teetee !

fun to see all the things we don't cos we live on a different timescale. couple of interesting things I noted;

you can see the leaves all raise up and get perky when the lights come on after the short night cycle (8-11am) , during the night they kind of look like they fall down a bit like the plant is chilling out a bit and having a rest. light comes on and they rise again, time for action!

other is how they wiggle along, to me this looks like the plant trying to tune itself to grow at the light. solar panels thesedays do the same thing, a control circuit moves them around to follow the sun. the plants has a more basic method, it wiggle one way till the Photosynth on one leave is more than the other, then the situation reverses, so they wiggle along, but always tracking towards the light. I imagine in natural conditions we'd see them track the sun through the day.
