I'm so used to cutting clones from the tops of plants I train. Well, I did the ol 'Fuck, I Missed' method.

And fuck, I missed, indeed!

130_0064.JPG
First, a shot of the babies. As you see, the brutes are STILL brutes!

130_0066.JPG
Numero uno, I did miss a bit more than I wanted!

130_0067.JPG
Numero Dos. This one went better.

130_0068.JPG
And the runt. I've decided to top this one purely because of the prime internodal spacing and much easier trainability of those freshly-developing shoots.

For #1, I'm thinking that if the FIM holds and it all survives, I'm looking at one cola from that left-side section, and two or three from the right section. Possibly the same for #2. The baby was simply in too prime of a state to not just top and get ready to begin training, though I'm having some reservations about this one given its growth pattern, and it might be male.

why don't you mainline the runt as an experiment? Show me how it's done!!!
you're almost there... just remove everything below the 2 shoots at the top and their leaves, and train them out at 90 degrees.
then when the shoots have 6 internodes top at the 3rd and defoliate below again on each and spread the new shoots out 90 degrees again. and repeat 2 or 3 more times.
:grin:::::

How about I do a combo LST + mainline? You can get the same results essentially by leaving those extra internodes roughly where they are and just bend the plant over, and start forcing everything straight up. Just like in your prior picture in that one thread, there's only going to be a couple of inches of distance from the main stem to any of the branches, and in the case of it being horizontal, energy needed to push that length (instead of height) is essentially nil.

Well, the FIM worked like a charm!

I will be training the baby soon enough, but for now I'm really working on getting the bigger plants rolling and producing! I might move the runt over to its own cabinet and a screen!

Yea, well I tried. I'm not in possession of the most steady of hands.

I'll be getting multiple tops, I'm quite certain of that! Now it's a matter of training the runt. Looks like I'm going to have to move it, as the other plants are getting large enough to the point I'm going to have to bend them over and start flowering soon. Very soon.

Alrighty, pulled out all the other buckets and did a change, good thing, too, they had just begun to run dry, as you can see from the very slight limpness!

130_0082.JPG

Went to transition level strength for the nutes.

Now the big question. There's quite a bit of stretch since the plants kinda crowded each other out (excepting the runt, which left mostly exposed kept dense and short foliage.) To clone, or not to clone? I'm thinking of popping clones from the ends of the branches, letting two new branches form behind each cut at the internodes, training for a week or so, and then throwing them into flower! I can pop the buckets to the walls, and run my NFT channels in there for extra flower sites from the clones once I've sealed the ends back up so they don't leak (because they leak like a sieve without some sort of gasket!)

Hah! Woke up, was thinking about dong the cloning, annnnd I saw pistils on Numero Dos.

Can't really see because the camera wouldn't directly focus on them (dead center) but I got up close with my microscope to make sure.

pistils!

Oh yes, I'm excited. I was thinking of cloning so I could also determine gender before flowering these big plants. Well, I know number two is female (at least showing for now.)

So I'm moving directly to 12/12, starting today.
