Stealth wardrobe

Postby teetee » Wed Sep 18, 2013 9:16 am

Hi Guys,

As promised, here's a few pics of my 'drobe while I fit it out with all the gadgets. It was made by The Original Growbox Company, as a shell, I do the rest.

Nothing to see here... just an ordinary cupboard

Hang on... what's this?

P1030624.JPG
BEHOLD!!!

It's well built for the purpose of growing, so its double layered plywood construction with an antibacterial varnish, and the mylar is nicely done, they get a sheet of plywood, layer it with thermabloc (a type of insulating foam), then wrap it all up with diamond mylar, taping it down at the back. Then the whole panel is screwed inside the drobe. It's a neat idea, but reduces the internal dimensions a bit. It should make it more thermal and sound proof, and reduce thermal camera issues though. It also has a neat magnetic locking device to deter casual observers.

My CO2 cylinder just arrived, so gotta go and play.

More soon...

Fun part about FLIR thermal cameras - they are only effective checking the outside of your building for heat leaks in spaces it should not have heat leaks. It can't see through the outermost layer of radiated IR. They won't see that you have a growing box, they'll see that your room in that area of the house is venting out more heat than it probably should be.

Of course, with LED, this is almost a non-issue. Almost.

Hi Ledbud,

Got some Barney's Farm seeds... Vanilla Kush, Tangerine Dream, Pineapple Chunk and LSD. In order of anticipation, LSD being the one I'm most looking forward to, but the Pineapple also.

I don't wanna get my hopes up, but I can't FUCKING wait!!!

Here's the 'drobe at present, I fitted the fan and filter, positioned the temp and CO2 sensors and am putting in T5 side lighting. You can see my Bubbleponic box as well.
Looking goooooood. Time for another smoke!:::: :::: :::: :::: ::::

I'm assuming you're going to install the T5 lighting vertically-oriented, yes?

Re: Stealth wardrobe

Postby teetee » Sun Sep 22, 2013 9:45 pm

That's an unexpected question! I initially could only find 2ft 24W Sunblasters in most grow shops, so I bought 4, then found the actual importers site, where they sold 3ft (39W) and 4ft (54W). One of the selling points of Sunblasters is that they can be connected in serial, thus using one plug. The problem I had was that the 2ft lights came with tiny connecting cables 10inches long, so it was hard to spread the lights out. The importers (FutureHarvestEurope) sold longer connecting cables as well. I bought 2x 3ft Sunblasters (all have reflectors).

So the 2 x 3 footers fitted nicely horizontally on the back wall and the 4 x 2 footers went in vertically on the side walls. I reckon they penetrate 5 or 6 inches in so I should have enough coverage when it gets crowded in there and the LED will work on the (hopefully dense) tops. My positioning was dictated somewhat by the connection leads, and I eventualy had to separate the T5s into 2 separate chains, so I have one side wall and one of the back tubes on one plug, and the others on another.

LEDDWCRigger, You're gonna tell me now that I have made some kind of fundamental mistake, so let rip mate and educate me!

Anyway, here's some pics of the set up so far. I have dialled in some temps and humidity settings, and seeing how the fans run, and am fucked off to see that one of the intake fans is not working..... bollocks, and it's all wired underneath! Gonna have to do some stealth electronics to sort that out....

Well I just HAD to fire up the LED and see the whole freakin' light show

nothing wrong with that set up.
get some rubber mat for you DWC tub, the air stones will vibrate and you cab will be like bombox.

Cheers man,
Luckily I got some left over new carpet sitting around. Thanks for the tip.
I was also thinking of hanging the air pump to reduce vibrational noise, or will carpet or polystyrene do the job just as well?!
Hopefully my chiller will arrive tomorrow, so I can keep the nutes at a lower temp than the proposed 80-85 air temps that I will need because I'm running CO2.
I love my gadgets....
I also have a bluelab guardian wall mounted pH/EC /temp monitor. I'm wondering the best place to put it... probably near the bottom on the right side wall, towards the front, it's top, level with the top of the DWC. What do you think?

If you think this is bling, check out his guy on rollitup.com... do a search for:
|FCG|Frank's 1st Grow: Kali Mist | LED, CO2 & all the love they need.
This guy speent $5000 just to check his lights PAR.
He's also put a light mover rail in a small tent :o

edit: having read through his threads, he turns out to be a total ass and spoils everything. He did way too much research and became a know it all before even planting a seed. Made me realise I just should keep things as simple as possible.
