Re: Hoping to learn from experienced growers

Thought i would sign back on and do a post as i have a little time.
Its been a couple weeks since posting and man has a lot happened! I have learned a great deal on my first grow so far.
Here they are on day 28! Now they are growing really fast and i am happy with the progress that they are making.
Feeding started in week 3, day 22 and so did the introduction of the Skyline 400 mk2 to stand alongside the Skyline 600 mk2. Giving me a total of 500w of badass Skyline LED goodness.
I have been recording what the girls have been drinking each feed, so feeding them is not very difficult at all. I started with:
Week 3:
Canna Vega: At quarter strength of the recommended dose.
Cal Mag: At full strength. (I noticed a couple of brown spots on the lower fan leaves and was told by my sensei that the plants are supergrowing and LEDs hog this stuff so better if theres an abundance of it)
Roots excellurator: At half the recommended dose
Multizyme: At half the recommended dose
Day 21 when feed started.
The pH of the solution at 6.2 and the EC being 0.5. The EC of the tap water was 0.1 before the solution was made.
They reacted well to the feed and after the first one, I had determined that one of the shorter plants wanted more water than i was giving her and the other wanted less nutes as she had a couple of yellow tips after the first feed. So these were amended and i think they are ok now. To date i have fed 4 times with this.
As they are into week 4 now, and they have started flowering am going to incorporate molasses, and canna flores mixed in with canna vega from the next feed.
I bumped up the EC to 0.6 on the second feed and then 0.8 on the third at which it is stable at now. The pH has been 6.2-6.4 so fingers crossed i am doing things ok.
Heres the runt at day 21
I have to say a MASSIVE thank you to Muddy from LED hydroponics swell who has pretty much walked me through EVERYTHING upto now and he hasn’t put a foot wrong. So thank you very much mate, I am truly blessed to have met you. That also goes along with a HUGE thanks to TeeTee and Ledbud as well who have welcomed me into the community and answered all my silly nooby questions.
The 600 first went in at the at the same height as the 400, around 24inches from the canopy. But as the PAR output is so good from the lights, i increased the height again to as high as the lights could go in the tent to induce more of a stretch, in for a penny… I am confident they are going to stretch to make the most of the space at the rate they are growing now, judging on other peoples grows i think for this strain they will complete stretch around day 40, so we have a window to maximise vertical growth. Then i can start big bud and stop canna vega.
I have got an ideal height in mind though to make sure theres enough airflow in the tent, don’t want burnt or mouldy buds.
I am developing a feel for handling the plants and when they are happy or not. Muddy has introduced me to a training method that i have never ever seen before!! This was so interesting to learn and i think i am going to stick with it because the results speak for themselves.
The method involves removing fan leaves from the top of the plant that are restricting light to the upcoming side shoots. Over time this method means that you have several tops inline as opposed to the Christmas tree structure these plants tend to take on their own. This is also coupled with tucking fan leaves to do the same thing to maximise exposure. One of the key things i have learned over the past couple of weeks is that removing fan leaves like this when spaced out over time only does good to the plant. Or it has in this experience for me, but i will leave the seasoned growers to draw their own conclusions.
When flowering started i capped the RH at 48/55% which i hope is ok for the flowering phase. The temperature is stable between 23.5 and 27 degrees. I am not lowering the temp during the dark period of 4 hours because i don’t think it is worth it with autos. I would rather just leave them in a stable environment and focus energy on maintaining that.
On day 22 I also started the treatment of organic pesticide. I mixed some cold pressed 100% organic neem oil with a few drops of washing liquid and warm water and shook it vigorously. theres vids all over youtube on it. When lights were off i sprayed the tops and bottoms of the leaves so they didn’t burn. It is recommended to do this every 10 days but as they are into flower now i am going to use a clean cloth apply to fan leaves instead of spraying. I also carefully sprayed the soil as larvae can thrive in moist topsoil conditions.
In addition to this i put the second clip fan on the highest setting indirectly gently moving the plants so any critters can’t take refuge on our foliage. Each time i check them i give the pots a little shake and see if anything is flying around etc… abit OCD i know. However in the past week they have grown tremendously, the tallest is now 18.5 inches and the smallest is 14inches, so i don’t think that the small clip fan will suffice for much longer. Next week i will be installing a 16” oscillating fan into the tent and removing the small clip fan to keep up with the girls.
This week i have also rearranged the position of the plants. You can see the 400 is slightly higher than the 600 so I moved the two smallest to beneath the 400 for more stretch and they are stretching bit quicker than before and the three largest are at the back. One of these being the RUNT!!!! I am so happy with her progress she is slowly becoming the most attractive of the lot and i think she will give some really beautiful flowers.
All in all I am really really happy with the progress so far and I am ecstatic for the next grow also and using all the new skills. Wish me luck on the rest of the journey and if there’s anything i am doing wrong or could do better let me know!
for now, peace and love.
